Our Mission

The key objective of the Stadtmuseum Kaufbeuren lies in the preservation and acquisition of exhibits and the communication of its collections to a broad public. These principles, as set down in the ICOM Code of Ethics, are at the heart of all modern museum practices.  

Museums have a primary responsibility to catalogue, document and preserve all objects according to professional standards. Ongoing research into objects and their relationship to one another as well as cooperation and consultation with experts on a local level as well as with research institutes are a matter of course.

The Stadtmuseum Kaufbeuren takes its role as an environment for the promotion of lifelong learning seriously and sees itself as providing a cultural service for the broad public. Information is communicated by means of various media, guided tours, discussion groups and educational activities with the aim of making a visit to the museum an educational and inspiring experience. As our mission statement states, "... a place of learning and fun”.
