Typical Kaufbeuren – of religion, glass paintings and textiles
The tour gives an insight into the unique Protestant glass paintings created in Kaufbeuren between 1740 und 1780. At that time, Kaufbeuren was one of the few bi-confessional towns, where both Lutherans and Catholics were allowed to worship within its walls. The painting of religious motifs was a sideline for local weavers or woodblock cutters, who depended on the town’s major industry, textile manufacturing, for their daily bread.
